Robert Bates, 73 year old Volunteer Deputy Sheriff Accidentally Kills Eric Harris, 44 year old African American.
Once again, the Bates name denotes murder as in the Hitchcock Horror Film, “Psycho.” Recently, reality has presumed the arrogance of superseding the whimsical fantasies of fiction and a screenwriter, like myself. ISIS defies the imagination of any aspiring Tom Clancy to predict that confluence of American ineptness and Sadam Hussein’s remnants of Sunni officers.
Similarly, the fact that a 73 year old white male without any previous history of intense criminal justice training can mistake a gun for a taser in the pursuit of a man really defies any line of reason or logic. How a man 73 years old is even allowed to carry a gun in the name of any local sheriff’s department is beyond even my expansive comprehension.
As someone who has worked with local law enforcers over thirty years, I would not even consider the possibility of asking to carry a gun and participate in a sting and arrest case. At best, I have approached my locale Miami Beach Police Department to try to help them understand ‘hostage negotiations’. I did that in my shorts on one sunny day in their lecture room. There would never have been any possibility for me to engage in any professional activity that in any way resembled the rigorous police work demanded of the Miami Beach Police Department. How Bates was able to be an active part of the Sheriff’s Department in Tulsa, Oklahoma is really egregious in every sense of the word.
There were intimations that he had donated to the Sheriff’s election. Also there were anonymous suggestions that his records were falsified in terms of the necessary training that was required to fulfill this ersatz role which should have never existed in the first place. Clearly, Bates’s apology is neither sufficient or necessary.  He has to serve time for what he did: manslaughter. In addition, the Sheriff and any other cohorts who were involved in granting the wannabe Wyatt Earp a badge to kill should be dismissed ASAP.
I have no pity for Bates or the Tulsa Police Department.
I believe in the Second Amendment and the right to carry guns. I am strongly opposed to allowing any civilians to accrue some sort of legitimacy, be it a policeman or even a judge, without having been a professional beforehand [whatever that would mean].
There are no part time victims who can be killed at will. Only in the Bates Motel does the perpetrator of his heinous crimes [Anthony Perkins] get away scot free. That is simply a horror movie. God forbid that Robert Bates is released from prison for his ‘accident’ then Alfred Hitchcock has really returned from the graveyard of filming those acts of horror that defy the imagination.

  1. It is a very disturbing story. It looks like he "paid to play". But unfortunately it is a serious job that requires serious skills as well as good judgement and extensive training to handle some very intense confrontations.
He, like me is a member of the old farts club, and should have been put out to pasture awhile ago, but he had some fantasy role he wanted to play, now he must face the music.
He looked as competent in handling a gun as VP Dick Cheney at the old ranch.

Now that it's hunting season on black males in this country, have you seen CNN report on how the police in Baltimore don't know how their apprehended suspect severed his spine and broke 3 cervical vertebrate?

The lying police said it must have happened while in transport in the van Even tho the suspect couldn't move from the neck down prior to being dragged into the police van.

    1. 1.Most police are corrupt. It's the "rogues" who are the honest ones...

Whenever a commentator addresses police misconduct he'll always begin with the assuring, "Now realize that 99% of police officers are great guys out trying to do a very difficult job and it's only one percent which are bad apples that I will be talking about."

Yeah like in the Frank Serpico and Robert Leuci stories of the 1960s in New York where they were the only cops on the whole force who were not corrupted...you mean like that?

2.Police are trained that citizens lives are meaningless and only they are important under the law...

At every point in police training they are taught that in every situation that their security always takes precidence over the safety of citizens they encounter. They are taught that officer safety is the only consideration, and that the lives and rights of citizens must be sacrficed to guarantee officer safety AND THAT THIS IS THE LAW !!!

If you train someone to think this way they will come to learn and accept that they have a special status - that the law and society ordains that they are more important than lowly ordinary citizens.

From this training and the laws behind it stems all police misconduct and unnecessary use of lethal force.

3.The hundreds of times each day that conceal carry license users draw their weapons they almost never shoot because a.) the consequences of shooting are grave, and 2.) it turns out to be unnecessary.

However all police in similar situations use deadly force in a dozen or so cases when it's shown to be unnecessary. They pull the trigger when a citizen would not - merely because they can and there isn't a deterrent as there is for citizens.

    2. Dr. P stay away from the Dade County Sheriff's Office or any of the municipal police departments. Dade County Sheriff is the chief agency there because there are what, like thirty different towns in that county and each has their own city police department LOL? Sort of a joke. Like in LA county where there are like...what twenty different town in that county each with their own rinky-dink departments of police......

In my opinion citys and towns and school districts and parks and housing departments and transit authorities and such SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAVE THEIR OWN POLICE !!!!!!!!

Only the County Sheriff should be peace officers and maybe the County Constables. They alone should keep the peace or enforce laws [those two missions being largely mutually exclusive under today's practices].

Police should go back to being only about keeping the peace and responding to disturbances and the District Attorney's offices should investigate crimes and bring them to court......

Police Departments shouldn't be investigating crime and handing the prosecutors packages of cases....

  3. Unfortunately, if this pattern of police killing black men continues i.e. by unreasonable deadly force, I could see another Watts riot-like event happening somewhere in this country again.

  4. But then Miami Beach is a beast unto itself... One runs into the strangest behaviors, with whatever designer drugs are the rage of the moment. Last time I was there, a girl is telling me about this new drug called "Devil's Breath" that makes you lose all volition. That sounds like scopolamine I said, which is nothing new -it's been a favorite with the CIA for years, only now its becoming popular with the club kids?

George H.W. Bush is said to have utilized it on at least one occasion -recounted at the end of this post... http://wxxxnews.blogspot.com/2015/01/poppy-bush-porno.html

    1. In Vietnam LSD was used so soldiers in jungle could hear much more.

    2. In time of Vietnam US had more types of fighter air supremacy aircrafts for navy and aircraft carriers than for land... That was ultimate perversion of power. And to go fight in to tropical jungle like that, Lost in action by Chuck Norris was best movie for kids ever made. Stalingrad was nothing.

    3. Chia Cha, I'm an Aussie you were talking about LSD in Vietnam! Have you ever heard of Nugan Hand Bank? read this following article "A crime reporter unravels tale of Nugan Hand Bank scandals"
A Nugan Hand branch in the Thai opium-producing country, for example, abutted the office of the American Drug Enforcement Administration - and even shared a receptionist with it. Important American companies in Saudi Arabia backed Nugan Hand's aggressive sales there to American workers; big investment money was raked in, sometimes being carried away in plastic garbage bags, much of it disappearing forever. In 1979, Nugan Hand hoped to gain United Nations money to settle Indochinese refugees in the Turks and Caicos Islands, seen as ideal Caribbean transshipment points on the narcotics routes from South America!

    4. LSD for hearing! What about the pink elephants and giant spiders you might hallucinate? Also no amount of resources could topple the guerilla strategy of the Viet Cong. This was the bad war after the good war and the US lost because it was wrong to be there. Interesting fact about Chuck Norris although he is a very nice kind man, he never fought full-contact in the ring. The late great Joe Lewis sparred with him once and gave him a short left to the liver. Chuck picked himself up took of the gloves and said, 'sorry Joe this is not for me'. The whole tough thing was created by Hollywood. In fact even Stallone came unstuck, when he thought all his training might propel him to the real ring. He auditioned Earnie Shavers (one of the hardest hitting heavies of all time) for the role of Mr T but he hit far too hard. Sly also tried it on with an Italian contender same thing. Reel life is not real life!

    5. Every government hates drugs, because it cannot tax that money. So they always try to control at least something, somehow. I know in war in Croatia in 1991, many first brigades which were formed were formed of heroine addicts, government was giving them freely heroine there. In war there must be tobacco and alcohol. Also hospitals must work, that is essential. Nothing else is important. It is like in civilian life, if hospitals are functioning society will fix it self, and economy will find way to function. Only investments must be done in to hospitals. Everything else comes by it self. Tax breaks for rich, investments in to economy etc, that is fraud. NKVD would give to soldiers before run on to german tanks, combination of gasoline and alcohol. Also when you get drunk, there is no problem to come closer to enemy lines and start shooting, because realistically, beggining of effective shooting with machine gun starts only at distance closer than 100m. So to avoid getting drunk you can adopt as alternative two doctrines. NATO doctrine of fire power punch, meaning deal with enemy by using supreme power of punch there where you choose to be dominant, or you can adopt communist doctrine of fire density, meaning you start shooting from safe distance indirectly, meaning that you decide that in 6am, every soldier on whole front line will start shooting from machine gun even he directly cannot see anything, we had in Croatia and Bosnia 2000km of front lines, meaning if you kill 10 persons in one hour of shooting by using every machine gun there is on whole front, that is very very good result.

  5. Playing Devil's advocate a moment. I have been watching a number of videos on Youtube regarding action vs reaction with armed and unarmed response. I must admit I am starting to understand the US Police point of view. On an ordinary traffic stop when the dude hands you his license, when you look at it, unless a mate is covering you, there is no chance of shooting him before he shoots you...none. Regarding the racial element which seems prevalent at the moment, I remember a case study where even other Black security personnel always shot the black suspect first, so even within Delta (your chums Dr P!) they got them to look at the hands rather than the body to see if they were a threat or not. A gentleman called Kyle Defoor on Youtube explains this with a gun and a blade better than me. My point is the US Police are always on the back foot regarding self-defense and if they want to go home to their wives, probably have to be a bit 'twitchy' to survive. I am quite sad as it makes the Clint Eastwood '3 Coffins scene', complete bull sheet! It reminds me of an old East end of londonism, ' you hit them, before they hit you!'. The racial element makes this a difficult area, in London if you are black or white if you are attacked with a knife, the attacker is highly probably a young black male. If they were young Chinese males then Police stops would reflect this. Also there used to be cultural weapon stereotypes Mexican Knife, black razor, British fist , American gun. Now everyone has gone gun. I agree with Learn from history, a video cam would help deter the crazies in uniform.

  6. Wasn't there something I read regarding police becoming more "thuggish" and intimidating in the USA? Certainly seems to lean more toward that over here in the UK the stereotypical dixon of dock green or village Bobby is no longer!! Haven't read much into the above case but initial thoughts of mine are that Mr bates seems trigger happy and shouldn't of had a water pistol let alone a taster or indeed a gun!

There is no need for capitalists to produce shoes which are not going to be needed by both sexes... Warehouses filled with unsold shoes is something which goes directly against capitalistic faith. Satan is making fun of USA, so much it is funny for me also :), this program must go to in kindergarten program immediately. I admit that we commies could never be so successful, yes, without healthy greed for money we could never think of this. We need at least 50% of kids to be gays, that only can be equality. Imagine 20 boys, 14 years old, having party after school and banging each other in group sex between playing playstation, or banging each other in school toilet, two guys do not need much talking... :) Teacher will show them before in school how to get condom on to penis, but oh, that program for kids already goes on... Great success of Satan and i thought that banking was his main success. :)

    1. Yes all rich goes to hell, Jesus said that it easier for camel to pass that narrow passage in Jerusalem than for rich guy to enter kingdom of God. It is very well known that not even one camel went through that passage:)... Of course, many are trying to push that camel through, they even are putting and inventing words, about some cargo, like camel can pass without cargo... Heresy, because no camel ever went through that passage...
