Boxing at the Military Academies is Required for Military Cadets
“Expose Them to Fear and Stress”!
A recent article in the NYTimes, September 29, 2015 entitled “Despite Concussions, Boxing Is Still Required for Military Cadets” by David Philips explains that the number of brain concussions does not warrant continuing boxing as a sport for training our ‘future soldiers’.
From my experience, I have found that nothing that the army is presently doing has increased our military’s ability to win a conflict or increase the capacity of our military staff to configure a successful campaign. In fact, the recent successes of the Taliban in Afghanistan overwhelming our own soldiers as well as decimating our American-trained Afghanis has shown, once again, that we do not have an effective fighting force anywhere in the world. Our methods of training combat officers in the various elite military academies is at best antiquated, if not completely irrelevant.
Since WWII, our US military leadership has become an embarrassment to our country. It’s not the soldiers themselves who have been wanting. It is the Senior political and general staffs that have turned out to be disastrous.
What can explain the failure of our military in Korea? Excuses abound but only five years prior to that war, we had prevailed in two World Wars. Then the Vietnam War mirrored the errors of strategy, tactics and implementation that were reflected in Korea. In both cases and then subsequently to that, our military has not been able to assess what it can and cannot win [in its fullest sense].
When I was drafted for the Vietnam War, I knew from the very beginning that our political and military leaders had no idea of what they were doing and why they were there.

Similarly, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, Somalia and other zones began to pop up with a regularity of senselessness that begged the basic question of who really was in charge of trying to win a war. From my extensive experience in conflict areas around the world, I knew that our leaders [civil and military] did not know the languages, cultures nor the mentality of the people with whom they were fighting against or for. Eventually, it became so absurd that we, Americans, were arming the very factions that we were supposed to defeat.
Witness the recent fiasco where our military/CIA trained a certain number of people [say100] and ended up with about six ‘moderate rebels’ who relinquished their equipment and trucks over to Al Qaeda or ISIS. Thus we have become a military of failed endeavors and wanton mockery. That is no way to run an Army. This entire imbroglio starts with a White House that has never seen combat nor understands the nature of war, let alone the science of warfare.
Since the Bush Sr administration, there has been no POTUS who has ever witnessed the ravages of war first hand. Most of our Presidents and presidential candidates have made a mockery of our draft system, demonstrating to the American public that time and time again, only the rich and entitled have avoided military service.
Witness the satirical palaver of Trump who is proud to have avoided the Vietnam Draft while I and others really did not have the chance to buy or ‘game’ our way out of it like George Bush Jr [ and his National Guard Charade]; or the sanctimonious pronouncements of a wealthy Mitt Romney who ran to Paris and proclaimed the need for a Mormon Priest to convert the French Catholics. Yet we see on the roster, men perhaps boys, who want force and wars to defeat our erstwhile enemies like ISIS or the Taliban while they scurry off to the Peace Corps and try to convince the Mexicans to come to America – as Jeb Bush and his cowardly family has done.
As our leadership resigns to bellicose talk while hiding beneath their school desks, our military leaders have refused time after time [with few exceptions, namely Gen Martin Dempsey] to deny POTUS the opportunity to fail in combat and instead to learn to win the peace. No travesty was greater than our constant bombardment of Libya in the name of democracy and transparency while the only henchman who did maintain political and economic stability was whisked away [Qaddafi].
The problem is far greater than this endless charade of military disasters. There is a cancer within our military that promotes political professionalism at the expense of true strategic and tactical capability. No longer do we have a system in place where the competent, war-tested Captains and Majors can be promoted into senior positions of responsibility because our very senior slots are taken by sycophants and staffers.
Currently, there is not a measure of what makes a good or outstanding General or Admiral. Instead we have resumes filled with all types of acronyms that for most of us mean nothing. On top of these supernumeraries, we then place Secretary of Defense, like Pannetta, Carter or even Gates who have never witnessed or experienced any sort of combat other than as a “guest of DOD”.
We need a new way to assess the needs of a modern military configured for the 21st century. This modern military must be equipped for combat in the information age.

We don’t use horses anymore but maybe our training should include something other than “boxing”. I read a recent think tank book on the future of our military and how we should utilize it. The book was like our military; a complete fiasco of thinking critically instead relying on completely false assumptions and heuristic concepts that could never be realized.
We do not need a bigger stronger military. We need a smarter more effective one with senior leaders who have been culled out for their courage to resist civilian authority; as well as the ability to demand real outcomes in military matters. That search alone is enough to induce a brain concussion. It is worth firing everyone until we get the people we need—just like General George Marshal did in preparing for two wars in WWII.

  1. Wow, blew my hair back Dr P. : ) I like what you have said here, makes a lot of sense, but as you know, not easy to do, but I too believe, to be worth the effort.

    1. It turns out that the females who passed the Ranger course were given lesser requirements so they would pass....

And now the Army is moving to putting all females into combat.

They will serve next to the cross-dressing trans-sexuals in the newly formed "Kaitlyn Jenner" Regiment, where broad shouldered and husky voiced former linebackers trade lipstick and share advice on pumps and heels, hair coloring, and curls....

      David Irving was visionary!

  2. To achieve this aforementioned goal, I believe one has to ask the right questions, and that requires people who have the ability to THINK. You are now raising the bar higher Dr P.

  3. Dr.P you and I both went to MIT, but when I was there I wasn't in an "international relations" program, I was in a dedicated "defense and international relations" program, meaning I was steeped in strategic studies with an eye towards MEASUREMENT OF EFFECTIVENESS....

What I was taught was this....

THE AMERICAN MILITARY HAS ALWAYS SUCKED

In the Great War and in the Spanish American War and in the Second World War.....

    AMERICAN OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS SUCK.

    Let's look at WWII....

60% of Americans under arms were draftees who didn't want to be there, and most people with influence got out of combat positions and most of those draftees in combat were unmotivated and had terrible morale.....

John Keegan explains that on D-Day that the units deployed on the beaches measured out as having only a fraction of the combat power they were supposed to have because only 1 out of 10 soldiers even fired their weapons!

When you listen to the History Channel or read Stephen Ambrose they only refer to elite all-volunteer units like the Marines or the Airborne Divisions or the Rangers, etc....maybe a couple of the Armoured Divisions under Patton like the ones led by Creighton Abrams.....

But 90% of the "General Purpose Forces" were made up of people who didn't want to be there....period.

And as for the "leadership" at Corrigador and in the Phillipines generally at the beginning.....well we can just vomit.

The simple fact is that America is behind these great oceans and except for he Confederacy in 1861 no aggressive army has had any chance of setting foot here to harm anyone.....period.

The average American is not that STUPID, and we have a veterans organization called the "Veterans of FOREIGN wars....."

We don't need the kind of real professionalism which has motivated the other great powers....

  4. I can talk for hours and hours about the poor performance of American ground forces....

In WWII we relied on airpower to destroy enemy armour so that the infantry could take ground. It was the B-17s, B-25s, and P-47s which destroyed the Germans in France and everywhere else..... American ground forces weren't up to the job except for certain units like the 101st.

In Korea US forces were tied to the roads and depended entirely on air power once again.... Korea was fought from the skies.

Vietnam was just a nightmare of American draftees, negros and Mexicans and white trash....walking around in the heat and stepping on mines and booby traps without ever seeing "the enemy" until they happened upon a village which had declared themselves an NLF village and then the Americans would kill everyone IF the village hadn't already been wiped off the map by F-105s.....

American forces rely on firepower and a logistics train which is longer than any in history so that guns and missiles can "spew out fire like a fireman holding a firehose" .... in the words of my former teacher William Kaufmann RIP

    1. After WWII there was a question as to whether the navy would even exist, and the navy had to adopt carrying nuclear weapons on carriers just to be relevant...

It was thought right after 1945 that only the air force was needed to drop atomic bombs, and then the army would form an occupation force...

    2. I want everyone to look up Wikipedia for "San Antonio Sporting District" to see that San Antonio used to have the largest center for brothels and bordellos in the United States. This is how I cut my teeth on operating escort services and call girl rings for years!

But as wonderful as this tradition was in the Alamo City it was all ended in 1941 by the Army there all because Dwight Eisenhower the arrogant ignorant asshole who never commanded anything demanded that the city close down the entire District...and for no reason whatsoever.

Eisenhower couldn't lead anyone anywhere and was a staff officer dumbass.

    3. The most famous Bordello in America in the 1890s was Fanny Porter's House in San Antonio on South San Saba and Eldorado Streets....but today even the names of both those streets have been changed and the building is gone...

Today what was the Sporting District is where the city police headquarters and the municipal courts and so forth are all located so it's all a local law enforement area instead of the vice dens of the past.

What a shame. Fanny Porter began her career when she was fourteen, and like most girls in San Antonio was a regular working girl when she was fifteen and sixteen years old.

  5. Individuals on right positions, like Dr. Pieczenik are what holds some nations. There are not too much of them, mostly because system to find them is corrupt and sick and they end up something where they do not belong. Capitalists does not want effective tools of government like military. They are afraid of it because of possible coup and because military almost always have highest trust in most society. That is why Microsoft will pay programmers to do something which is opposite to something they are planning to do, like victory or collecting of pillaged treasuries from war zone.

  6. Today's force is basically a mercenary army of kids in it for the college plan because there is no other way to afford the $160,000. tuition of four years most colleges now charge.

As soon as I make a billion or so, and I'm on my way, I'm buying colleges here and there and offering low cost education like I had.....period. It doesn't have to be free...just affordable.

  7. American land army relay on logistics and supply too much, you just adopt communist TITO people in arms concept and you have it. You blow bridges, trucks, docks, use snipers in cities... Saddam had all advices he needed but he did not adopt that model because he was afraid to leave warehouses full of arms to people, (only Sunni group was option), so even he was not prepared, he denied victory to US army in Iraq, post mortem.

Yugoslav National Army was army which was planned to last for 2 months, until people can get in to arms and start local decentralised arms productions, get to defensive positions. And go guerilla. That tactics was planned for WW3 and Soviet invasion, to get more appropriate diplomatic ground for negations between sides. And of course to get Albania.
US soldiers are not afraid to die, but cmon we they should fight on other continent, for who... America will have to fight for Pacific once more that is obvious... And who is Indochina now? Who?
Maybe if US soldiers would get supplies by mass of light fast drones, that we could talk about something.

  8. I suppose they think the Boxing thing will encourage spirit, in the British Army they do something called 'milling' so that you cannot skill your way out of it. However it is all dated, like fixed bayonet practice into straw men. The reality will probably be one operator and his pack of 'Google Dogs' with mounted machine Guns! Also a leaning to more SAS style specialist units where one willing volunteer, who enjoys and is good at killing is worth twenty conscripts. I recently visited a large submarine at Chatham Docks and I do not understand how they persuade men to be away from their wives and families for six months at a time with a load of farting strangers in a glorified Tin Can. The Politician draft dodger thing has always bemused me, how can you have the brass neck to hide under the table when you are a young man, but when old send other young men to the mincing machine. Cheney dodged 7 times! Here he would have joined the Royal Stand backs regiment. As for the usual theoreticians running wars they should remember that old one, 'no battle plan survives contact with the enemy' What they need is someone like Charles XII of Sweden he and 3000 men beat 50,000 Russians...now that's tough!

    1. Germans are almost again supreme race today, ONLY and ONLY because they have almost half commmunist factories.
They were wise enough to introduce communist there where it matter, to those factories which have to be most competitive namely: BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen...
In those factories almost half of board members must be elected democratically by workers...

If stocks would be abolished, and board members elected by workers would go to 50% of board, you would have, real Marxist communism.

And another thing I see the wage bill for ISIS is up to $360m a year and they are having trouble meeting it, hence their fighters are breaking off into Pythonesque factions calling themselves different Islamic Revolutionary sounding names. This is no small task as anyone who has ever designed an acronym or Logo will tell you. I was always intrigues as to supplied their nutty Ninja style uniforms and nice new lines of White Toyota with gun mounting ready trucks, apparently produced in Texas.Who runs the logistics for these things, take out the bean counters and no clothes, no trucks, no Army. There will be probably more desertions as the Russians get a grip and a Chinese Carrier has just landed with a thousand Marines so proxy Army watch out!

  12. DR.P WHEN WILL YOU DEMAND THAT COURTENAY VALENTI TAKE A DNA TEST ???????????????????????????????

    YES!

The CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG that the Hollywood Producer Courtenay Valenti is....

REALLY THE DAUGHTER OF LYNDON B. JOHNSON !!

Her mother, Mary Margaret, was one of LBJ's secretaries and when he got her pregnant in 1962 she quickly agreed to marry one of LBJ's little turd employees.....

    JACK VALENTI

This phony marriage was so little Courtenay would have a daddy, but also so Mary Margaret could go on screwing LBJ thereafter....

    AND SHE DID!

After she gave birth to little Courtenay she continued visiting Johnson once he became President and they carried on their fuck sessions in the White House, all under the stupid ass nose of Johnson''s dumbass wife, "Lady Bird" aka "porkchop".....

So Dr.P as a member of the Motion Picture Academy and the Association which the little shrimp Jack Valenti headed for decades......

It's time you call for a DNA testing of Courtenay and prove once and for all that she's yet another of Johnson's bastard kids....

There was one son and three girls who were his illegitimately.

The guy just didn't like to use condoms and never learned to pull out !!

  19. Sergio due to zero birth rate for Germans in 10 years the number of brown uniforms will be much fewer than the number of black flags with the sword and Arabic letters. Every Arabic woman gives birth in average to 5. They will all survive in Germany and in 10 years due to rule of numbers Germans can become subdued minority. BTW now you can go to jail for extremism if you have this brown shirt in your wardrobe.
